Avallen, which means 'apple tree' in Old Cornish is a delicious drink that gives bees a boost and is genuinely sustainable. The production story is a tasty one: Avallen is made without sugar, caramel or boisé (a wood extract sometimes used to add colour to Calvados) – literally just good old apples and water – before it’s aged in French oak barrels for at least two years. In keeping with the general apple theme, the bottle’s label has even been printed on recycled apple pulp paper!

The brand’s founders are on a mission to make the world better: For every bottle sold, Avallen donate €0.50 to organisations and charities that champion the protection of bees, the restoration of their habitats, and the ban of harmful neonicotinoids.

Avallen is delightful served neat but also makes some fantastic cocktails. Try it with tonic water and 2 or 3 drops of bitters for a simple yet impressive drink.
