KRATOS Fiano
‘Kratos’ was the first wine bottled by Luigi and Raffaella Maffini in 1996 and has since become a benchmark expression of Fiano from Cilento. Planted on limestone-rich soils with cooling influences from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, the vineyards yield fruit of striking purity and natural tension.
In the glass, Kratos shows a bright straw hue with green reflections. Aromas are lifted and expressive: white peach, pear and citrus blossom, layered with fennel, almond and a subtle saline edge that speaks of its coastal terroir. The palate is textured yet vibrant, combining ripe orchard fruit with refreshing acidity and a distinctive mineral backbone. A gentle lees influence adds roundness without sacrificing precision, leading to a long, savoury finish.
This is southern Italian white wine at its most refined — generous yet focused, aromatic yet structured — and a superb ambassador for the quality potential of Fiano outside Avellino.
Food Pairing: Grilled sea bass, lemon and herb chicken, seafood risotto or burrata with olive oil and sea salt.
Serving Tip: Serve lightly chilled (10–12°C). Will drink beautifully now but can develop honeyed complexity over 3–5 years.
