Podere Guardia Grande Cagnulai l'Alghe

L’Alghù 2024 is an expressive and characterful red from Podere Guardia Grande, crafted entirely from Cagnulari, one of Sardinia’s most intriguing and little-known native grape varieties. Grown on the limestone- and clay-rich soils around Alghero, the vines benefit from constant sea breezes that help retain freshness while encouraging slow, even ripening. The result is a wine that combines Mediterranean warmth with a surprising elegance.

In the glass, L’Alghù shows aromas of ripe red cherry, wild berries, dried herbs and a gentle earthy spice typical of Cagnulari. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, lively acidity and a savoury edge that brings real complexity. Notes of raspberry, plum skin, pepper and Mediterranean scrub lead to a clean, vibrant finish. Distinctively Sardinian and wonderfully food-friendly, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats, tomato-based dishes and aged pecorino.
